It is very busy here in Saint Laurences BNS at the moment with all the boys from junior infants to sixth class doing wonderful work each day. It is a pleasure to walk the corridors and visit the classrooms and see the talents of our students and the great care and professionalism of our staff.
The boys from Junior infants to second class have just finished the butterfly project. This is where we take in a number of caterpillars in April. We mind them and watch them grow. We watch first hand their life cycle and celebrate their beauty as they turn into butterflies. There was great excitment today as our butterflies were released in our wild garden.
We celebrated first Holy Communion with second class on Saturday May 18th. It was a very special day . The boys were excellent in their celebrations and thank you to our wonderful choir whose sweet singing added to the enjoyment and reverence of the day. Thank you to all the teachers and staff that worked so hard to make it a special day.
Congratulations to our Senior chess team who were crowned All Ireland Primary school Chess winners for a third year in a row. We hosted the event this year on Friday May 22nd and it was wonderful to welcome schools from all over the country.
We welcomed our two infant classes for next year on Wednesday May 20th when we held our new infant day. We welcome our new students and families to our school community and look forward to working with them over the next 8 years.
Congratulations to on our school producing two award winners for the Texaco Art competition. Well done boys.
Our GAA season is very busy with all classes participating at various levels. Best of luck to our seniors in their semi final on Wednesday. Our junior 1 and junior 2 teams had very enjoyable and succesful campaigns. Our two 3rd classes took part in a hurling blitz in Oatlands. 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes have just completed their coaching programmes.
We also had Santry sports ( Track and Field ) basketball teams in Tallaght finals and our school golf team took part in a competition today. Congratulations to Dylan Butler in sixth class who won a silver medal in under 14 100m sprint event. This is a wonderful achievement. Our tennis team had a wonderful year also as they qualified out of the group and made the knockout stages of their competition. Congratulations to our 5th classes on their great work for the Junior Entrepenur Project and to our 4th classes for learning to play the ukulele. We welcomed in the Irish Guide Dog Association to our school. They put on a great display for our students showing us the brilliant work that they do for those with sight difficulties.
Well done to our Green Committee who led our school to receiving our ninth green flag after two years of sustained work. Our green committee set a great example regarding helping Mother Nature and also by the great planting, pruning, watering, and gardening done in our school garden.
We look forward to our wellness walk on Friday May 29th. This is part of a Fun Friday. We will also be having a jersey day and welcoming our annual visit from the ice cream man with cones for all. On this day we will collect funds for Breast Cancer Ireland ( Kilmacud Crokes Cycle Malin to Mizen Head) and for green resouces for our school. More details later in the week.
