National Tree Week 2026
🌳 National Tree Week 2026 is taking place this week, and we already have something exciting to share! Back on 24th November, Eoin Heffernan planted an acorn — and it has now sprouted! 🌱 As the 14th-century proverb says: “From little acorns mighty oaks grow.” This reminds us that small, humble beginnings can grow into something strong, significant, and lasting. World Book Day 2026
What an incredible World Book Day we had in St. Laurence’s School last Thursday! The boys confidently shared summaries of their favourite books with their classmates, took part in a fun book swap, and proudly explained the characteristics of the characters they dressed up as. It was a wonderful celebration of reading, imagination, and creativity.

South Dublin Credit Union Quiz Champions
On Friday 6th February, five teams represented our school with great distinction in the local Credit Union Quiz. Congratulations to our U-10 and U-12 teams, who were crowned South Dublin Credit Union Quiz champions. They will now go on to represent the region in the Dublin competition in the coming weeks. Féile Fichille 30/01/26
St. Laurence’s was delighted to once again host a Féile Fichille event on Friday. We welcomed four local schools for a fantastic day of competition and camaraderie. A total of 128 children took part, demonstrating excellent concentration, outstanding sportsmanship, and a very high standard of chess throughout the event. Walkability Audit with the Green Committee – 29th January
On 29th January, the boys from the Green Committee took part in a Walkability Audit of the local area. We were delighted to welcome Julianne Pickard from Green Schools, who guided the pupils in assessing the safety of roads and footpaths used by children travelling to and from St. Laurence’s. The findings from this audit will be compiled into a report and submitted to Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council.

Remembering Phil Lynott
Ten boys from 5th Class took part in The Dedication: Remembering Phil Lynott , a special concert held in the 3Arena in January. They sang alongside children from The National Children’s Choir and did a fantastic job representing St Laurence’s. We are very proud of them.

Preparations for the Credit Union Quiz
Last Friday the 5th and 6th classes took part in trials to pick our school quiz team ahead of the Credit Union Quiz for local schools. The quiz will take place in early February and our preparations for it are already underway!

Christmas Festivities 🎄
The final week of school before the Christmas holidays was filled with festive cheer. The school enjoyed two outings to the local cinema, where the boys attended private screenings of The Grinch and Elf. We were also delighted to welcome a very special visitor to the school, Santa himself, adding to the sense of fun and anticipation. Cake Sale 2025 - Bake Off
Our annual cake sale took place on Friday the 12th of December and, as always, it proved to be a very enjoyable occasion for all the Laurence’s boys. This year, the event included an exciting new addition with the introduction of a Bake Off competition. The photo above tells its own story! The standard of baking on display was second to none. Aquaculture Remote Classroom
BIM's Aquaculture Remote Classroom visited St. Laurence’s last week. It is designed to help younger audiences learn about aquaculture using immersive technologies including VR headsets so pupils can plunge to the depths’ of the sea to learn about how salmon, oysters and mussels are farmed in Ireland. The ARC is jointly funded by the Government of Ireland and the EU under the European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).

Christmas Shoebox Appeal
Thanks to the generosity and kindness of the St. Laurence’s community, the 6th Class boys had a grand total of 260 shoeboxes to collect from our classrooms and load onto the truck last Wednesday! Team Hope gives the boys a lovely way to bring joy to children around the world at Christmas through the annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

Science Week 2025
Science Week 2025 (9–16 November) was one to remember, and the boys thoroughly enjoyed the events throughout the week. From explosions to demonstrations of changing states of matter and various chemical reactions, the boys investigated and carried out experiments that were truly unforgettable.
